The treasure of Bilquis -
I’m often asked what I do? Initially, this question would overwhelm me, because I didn’t have a cookie cutter answer. Life happens and I chose to fully accept the reality, with a goal to change my future. I asked myself what I wanted? My answer was “love”. I chose to create in by doing what my nani had taught me. I lost her when I was young and always found comfort in resorting to embroidery. It was a craft that she taught me and today I know she gave me her biggest treasure. I dreamt re-create stories of love using people’s heirloom pieces.
Everyone said how many would buy art because it’s not an easy thing to afford as well as digest. I understood the sentiment, yet refused to give up. I wanted women to feel beautiful and that is when my digital dupattas became a way for me to find you. Every piece has a name and a story that builds a whole new meaning to story telling. Today I know that the universe always had my back.
My prayers have been answered with lots of colour and gota.
Yes I am a dreamer and I’ll will continue to share my mad confessions.
Thank you to everyone one of you for being my rock in your own way.
Love and gratitude,
Amna Nawab
