My best downtime is peeling a pomegranate. It fills my heart with abundance and immense gratitude because I’ve always been told that “Anaar” is a fruit of paradise. Growing up, I’ve been told by my elders that every Pomegranate has a seed from heaven in it. Hence it was my mission in life to pick and eat every seed of my anaar. I also feel that it gives me a way to work with my fingers- it boosts your mind body coordination because one has to use the right pressure to not puncture the succulent seeds as my fingertips dig into the crevices of the pomegranate skin to pick all seeds without damaging them.
During a workshop a few weeks ago, I was pleased to hear similar stories about the Anaar from the attendees and the joy these stories brought to our hearts is unexplainable. The Quran honors the pomegranate as a symbol of the beauty and abundance of paradise, mentioning it in Chapter 55 (Surah Ar-Rahman) as a gift of divine creation. the anaar represents divine unity (the Oneness of creation). Each individual seed tells a unique story, yet they are all bound together as one. The pomegranate is widely celebrated as a "fruit of heaven" across several major religions and mythologies. It is explicitly described as growing in the gardens of paradise in the Quran, celebrated as one of the seven blessed fruits of the Torah, and holds sacred status in ancient Persian and Zoroastrian traditions.
This dupatta is the pomegranate of my collection. I’m truly blessed to recognize how Allah has blessed us all with a beautiful gift. May we all find our gifts and celebrate them.
I urge you all to treat yourself to a juicy anaar today. But peel/seed it yourself and don’t share. Sometimes it’s best to help yourself before you help others. I’ll post this and get myself an Anaar crate from Costco today 🤪.
And what favours of your Lord will you deny?
Love,
Amna Nawab
